It's not "the money's in the list" — meaning your own list of email subscribers. That one's actually true, annoyingly.

Here's What "Simple" Actually Looks Like

First you need a page where people can sign up. So you get a page-builder tool that costs more per month than a gym membership, and you spend a whole weekend dragging boxes around a screen until you produce a page that looks like it was designed by a raccoon.

Then you learn people won't just hand over their email address — you need to give them a free gift in exchange. Marketers call it a "lead magnet" — we call it a Speed Magnet™. So you open a blank document to write one, and sit there watching the cursor blink at you like it's mocking you. Because it is.

Then someone tells you that you need a Money Page. You don't know what a Money Page is. Neither did I, once. Nobody does. It's fine.

Then you need follow-up emails. Five of them. Written like a professional copywriter. Which you are not, and have no intention of becoming, because you have a life.

Then hosting, so your pages actually exist on the internet. Then a domain. Then connecting it all to an email service, which involves something called an API key, which involves a support ticket, which involves crying quietly in the dark.

So You Do What Almost Everybody Does

You give up on all of it and just share your affiliate link — the plain link to someone else's product — anywhere you can.

No list. No follow-up. Nothing that's yours. The product owner keeps every customer forever. You get a commission — maybe — once. And the guru was right about the list all along, which is the most irritating part.
